CABOT, AR - A Cabot man turned himself in yesterday after a felony warrant was issued for his arrest for shooting a dog in the head three times on November 3, 2011.

According to the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office, 46-year-old Anthony Romano was asked tied a lab/mix to a tree and shot it three times at the request of a neighbor. Lt. Jim Kulesa says the dog escaped when Romano went to get a different gun and was taken to a vet by another neighbor.

Romano told authorities the dog growled at him and was a danger to the neighborhood.

The dog survived the shooting.

Okay, First of all, this man is my father, and the animal was growling at children, one of them being my little sister, and some of our neighbors came to him asking him to help because they had called the animal shelter and the humane society to come and pick the dog up, and they told him they wouldn't because it was "out of their jurisdiction". My father called the police to ask them what to do, and he told my father to "do what he had to." Would you rather have had him drop the animal off in the woods to find its way to your house and growl at your kids?! The facts of this story are so messed up, the judge handling the case even said that the information and procedures that the prosecuting attorneys had presented were questionable. Therefore, DON'T JUDGE A SITUATION UNLESS YOU KNOW ALL OF THE INFORMATION. THIS IS MY FATHER YOU JERKS! I MYSELF HAVE HAD THREE WHO I HAVE BROUGHT AROUND HIM AND MY FAMILY, AND MY DAD HAS LOVED IT LIKE FAMILY. HE WAS NOT IGNORANT, HE WAS TRYING TO PROTECT MY FAMILY AND THE CHILDREN OF FAMILIES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. HE IS NOT AN ANIMAL HATER, WE HAVE HAD CHOCOLATE LABS SINCE BEFORE I CAN REMEMBER AND THEY HAVE BEEN TREATED WONDERFULLY. And to the person who said the dog had the higher IQ, what would you have done in the same situation if the human society, pound and sheriff's department refused to help you to remove the dog who was growling at children??? Take him in as a pet??? Hypocrites. Seriously.

I am well aware of the stray animal problems but there is something about being cruel.People are getting killed right and left lately. The guy will get off anyway.Putting animals to sleep is much more humane than blowing their brains out.The justice system in Ar. is in the dark ages anyway. Non-violent offenders draw as much or more than perv's, murderer's and rapists. Some of the posts show just how ignorant they really are. Like it's the animals fault.

Yes dogs are dumped in the county and it is hard to get them picked up and if you take one to a shelter you must pay. I am an dog lover so have always had several and could never shoot one. But their maybe a time where a person needs to and if they are going to do it they should have enough sense to know what size of gun to use and make it one shot. Shame on him!

I live in the country were every jerk that cant or dont whant to take care of their animal brings them to dump them off. I have talked to the city and the pound and even called the police and being as i dont live in the city. They dont want anything to do with that situation. Were is my rights or protection? If you should get 20 years for shooting a dog maybe they need to get the dogs for crimonal mischif they hurass my animals and tear up trash all over the place. What about when you hit one with your car? All of these people who want to defend the dogs... No body knows anything about them when they think it might cost them some money for repairs to someones vehicle. (20 years my butt) Someone needs to thin down some of the strays. All your realy doing is taking care of the problem someone els wouldnt do their self. They just go dump their problem on someone els. If you have an animal you dont want or cant take care of.... Take it to the vet and have it put to sleep or take it out back and do it your self.... Just stop taking them and dumping them on everyone els. I dont believe in animal cruelty eather... They shouldnt be beaten or starved but if you cant take care of it than do whats nessacery.

The problem we have is people buying their pets from pet stores, puppy mills for greed and just not taking care of the animals that are out there. People give puppies as a gift to their kids and then can’t take care of them. Then drop them off somewhere or turn them out. The law should be that if you own an animal you should have it FIXED period. The brutality of what this man did he should get 20 years. Cruelty to animals should be STOPED, this just leads to cruelty to children and wife’s.

Well I have three small dogs that I love very much. Although I hate dogs that are let run loose in the neighborhood. If it comes in my yard it's gone. Done deal. Then if you run up in my face your next. If you have a dog take care of it. Keep it at your house under your control. His problem was he was either a bad shot or couldn't figure out the caliber gun to use. Be respectful and keep your dog up. Then you don't have to sit and wonder why don't he come home.
