Cabot teacher arrested on sexual assault charges

Monday night, a Cabot Junior High North teacher sat in jail accused of sexually assaulting a student.
CABOT, AR - Monday night, a Cabot Junior High North teacher sat in jail accused of sexually assaulting a student.

Stacy Stracener turned herself in to Cabot police Monday afternoon. Cabot police arrested Stracener without incident just after 2 p.m. at the police station. She is currently being held on $25,000 bond with her first court appearance set for February 17.

Stracener faces 13 sex assault charges including eleven counts of first degree sexual assault and two counts of second degree sexual assault. All 13 are felony charges.

Stracener's arrest stems from allegations that the Cabot Junior High North teacher had inappropriate contact with a male student. The allegations came out in a report filed with Cabot police last Wednesday, February 8.

"We get an allegation like this, especially with what kind of crime could have been committed, or allegedly committed, to put all our resources into it and try to find out the bottom line what happened," said Cabot Police Sgt. Keith Graham.

Right now, the Cabot School District is not releasing a lot of information. It can confirm that it suspended the teacher last week after police launched the investigation.

In a short three paragraph statement, the district went on to say: "We will not compromise any pending action by the district as it relates to this personnel matter with the release of additional comment."

Police aren't saying much either. They did reveal the case remains an open investigation, which means more charges could come.

Also, police tell FOX16 they do not think the case involves other students.

"Just an isolated incident," added Graham.

Police say Stracener is in a private cell at the Cabot City Jail without bond where she will stay until Tuesday morning when she is expected to make her first court appearance.

The school district's website lists Stracener as a science teacher.
