You see that guy in the white uniform and the batters helmet? That's me in the dugout at Dickey-Stephens park. It may look like I'm ready to play ball - but I'm actually the bat boy for the Arkansas Travelers.
This job sounds like a cake walk, right? I mean, even a little kid can do it.
But I found out it's more than just picking up bats.
I wasn't told much before the game. Just put on the jersey, go to the dugout and get the bats. That's all I did at first.
Of course, there is more to the job that I wasn't told.
The batboy is in charge of laying out batting equipment. and picking it up after each inning too.
Not to mention, I had to snag foul balls.
I wish I had known all this before the umpire told the Trav's manager on me.
The job didn't seem like much - yet there were some issues. Not to mention, it was hard to focus on the diamond. The Travs were losing every time I looked at the scoreboard.
Despite these minor gripes, I enjoyed myself, the view, and the come from behind victory in the 9th.
