”I'm back here at the Little Rock Zoo and I'm here with Kate, who has been with the Little Rock Zoo now for 5 years. She's a (Zoo) keeper. So what's my job for today?"
"Well I'm going to show you the Cheetah routine here at the Laura Nichols Cheetah Exhibit."
"Cheetah...that's a new exhibit right?"
"Brand new, it opened in July."
"Alright, let's go and do it."
I was so excited to meet them. The cheetahs on the other hand weren't so thrilled. Maybe some food could win them over.
Kate took me into the kitchen to prepare a meal.
"What's the first thing we do?"
"Well, each girl has her own bowl. We thaw the meat two days ahead of time. It's, uh, more or less looks like hamburger meat. It's called feline diet."
"It's not something you put normally on the grill, right?"
"No, no."
Kate poured a couple pounds of meat into each bowl while I sprinkled the supplements - and glitter?
"We mark her food with glitter so we can identify her fecal samples outside," Kate said.
"That's an eloquent way to put it."
"We collect fecal and send them to the Smithonian for studies."
Apparently glitter doesn't affect their stomachs.
Next, I place the bowls in the cages and it's lunch time.
While Zazi and Maggie scarfed their food, Kate and I cleaned up their play pen.
Outside, I stumbled upon a dog toy.
Scratch that - two dog toys.
We didn't find any "other" stuff, thank goodness.
So I called it day and open the area back up to the cheetahs.
"Pretty good? Not taking your job right?"
"Um, you're probably going to take my job. I think you should stick to the news full time."
"Will do. Thanks for letting me stop by."
