The general manager of the amusement park, Steve Honeycutt allowed me to help out at the gauntlet roller coaster ride.

"So, before we open any of our rides everyday, the maintenance guys very early in the morning, even before daylight, start inspecting all the rides.” Honeycutt said. “So I need you to go up there and inspect that gear box for me. Ok?"

I'm not sure climbing up a 100 foot stair case is fun.

"Nothing to it, right Chad?” Honeycutt said. “You do this everyday I'm sure?"

"Yeah, I do it on the Stairmaster."

I make it to the top – finally.

"This roller coaster business ain’t easy."

After I catch my breath, Jason shows me how to inspect the gear box.

A few scraps here or there, but everything looks in tip top shape.

Next, I inspected the seats and the wheels of the coaster.

"What you're looking for is to make sure none of the rubber has come off, make sure the gauge is reading, make sure they are lubricated properly and you have to do that for every single wheel," Honeycutt said.

Again, everything looks good from my vantage point.

On to my favorite part of the inspection - riding the gauntlet.

When the ride ended, Steve brought me into a back room to go over my progress.

"You know what, for a rookie you did pretty well. Maybe you should put in an application. I might hire you later on.”

"Alright, I will say you might want to double check everything. Just in case."
