It's the case of the missing flamingos! One Little Rock church started a fundraiser taking donations from people in exchange for putting a flock of plastic flamingos in the yard of their choice. But someone spoiled all the fun and the fundraising.
Grace Connection Church started putting the flamingos in people's yards about two months ago to raise money for a women's retreat. But this past weekend someone stole one of their 3 flocks.
"We're all kind of shocked. We expected 1 or 2 to get stolen. We never expected all twelve," said Melissa Fulmer with the church.
Fulmer says the women's group can still raise money with their other two sets. But now they're out the $80 for the birds and nearly $200 in earning potential over the next five weeks. That's bad news since they're not even half way to their $2,000 goal. The good news is those with Grace Connection Church have a little flamingo insurance. They wrote "property of Grace Connection" on each bird. So if one of them randomly shows up around your house check for the writing to see if it belongs to the church.
Now Fulmer wants the thieves to return the flamingos so everyone can go on the retreat. She said, "when you come out of there you have new tools to fight in life, fight problems in life."
Those with Grace Connection don't know who stole the flamingos, possibly kids in the neighborhood. But they say despite what happened they plan to buy new ones and do this fundraiser again next year. If you'd like to participate in the fundraiser you can call 658-7854.
