LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The Arkansas Claims Commission has agreed to a $1.5 million award to the family of a 67-year-old man who was shot and killed by a juvenile released from state custody.

The award announced Wednesday for the family of Maurice "Beau" Clark Jr. still has to be approved by the Legislature in its session that starts next month.

In a written finding, the commission said Clark's family is due the payment for pain, suffering and mental anguish for Clark's "unnecessary and wrongful death."

Clark was killed in 2009 when the juvenile and three others invaded his home and the youth fatally shot Clark.

Department of Human Services workers had objected to the youth being released on grounds that he was involved with a gang and pledged to engage in violent acts.

The Clark family are very good people. He wanted to just retire peacefully in the neighborhood that was a good one before "zoning" occurred. My family is in the same boat. He was in the Korean war (as an only son). Then worked at Teletype for 33 1/2 years. Paid off his home, loves his neighborhood, but it's a neighborhood zoned for section 8 housing. There goes his dreams down the drain. Living only a few blocks away from the Clarks scares me on a nightly basis. Not much of a reward for old fashioned folks just trying to do the right thing... Survive and be happy.

Good for the ACC. Now if only DHS would fire the idiots responsible for allowing this trash back on the streets, after they were advised otherwise.
