CLEMSON - After mulling an offer to become Arkansas’ coach, Clemson’s Tommy Bowden has informed several members of his coaching staff he intends to stay.
An emergency meeting of the school’s Board of Trustees was called for 10 a.m. Tuesday, presumably to approve terms of a contract agreement reached for Bowden to remain at Clemson.
Athletic director Terry Don Phillips was scheduled to fly from New York to Clemson this morning to make Bowden a counteroffer.
In its initial contract extension offer last week, Clemson would have kept Bowden’s buyout at $2.5 million. Bowden sought to boost that clause to perhaps as high as $4 million for job security purposes.
Bowden has informed Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long of his intention.
