BOLES, Ark. (AP) — A western Arkansas post office may be closing after this month.
The U.S. Postal Service has issued a "notice of final determination" at the Boles Post Office, stating the Scott County facility will close after Oct. 31.
According to the Oct. 6 notice, anyone affected by the closing has 30 days to appeal the determination with the Postal Regulatory Commission.
Postal Service spokeswoman Lisa Tolliver Gay told the Southwest Times Record that if no appeal is filed, the post office could close soon after the notice period. She says if the commission agrees to hear the appeal, the issue could take up to 120 days to be resolved.
The financially strapped postal service is studying whether to close more than 3,600 post offices nationwide, including 179 in Arkansas.
