LITTLE ROCK, AR - A former White County coach will spend the next three and a half years in prison for sexual contact with a student.

Alex Scarborough worked as a coach at Riverview High School in Searcy.

Prosecutors say Scarborough engaged in a sex act with one of his students between September and October of last year.

Scarborough entered a guilty plea last month.

He will have to register as a sex offender after he's released from prison.

@RyanJarrett - You are correct! The best adjective to describe Alex is kind-hearted. You are also correct that he is not a molester. I have known him since he was a toddler. You know his heart as I do and for that I am thankful. Thank you for your kind words!

The age of consent in Arkansas is 16. A 16 year old can do whatever sexual act they want, even with adults. THe only qualifier is if the adult is in a position of authority over the child. Teachers, preachers, cops, doctors, etc are no go. Anybody else is just fine.

None of y'all knew Coach Scarborough apparently because I know him and he isn't a molestor, though he will be labeled that way forever now. He's a very kind-hearted person! He was there for me when I needed help with my personal life. So y'all talkin' trash about him just need to stop. If I can I'd go visit him. Love you Coach.

Well, let’s slow down a bit. I think the age of consent in Arkansas is about 14, according to DHS. My 1st wife ran away from home, got raped and pregnant at 17. I married her when she was still 17! I’ve never felt like a child molester and I’m not one! What if this guy was 17? Would he be a child molester then? NO! How about 17 and 364 days? No! His only fault I can see was he was a teacher! OK, fire him for that, but I don’t see the other!

I could care less if she was 17.5. He was the adult. He was old enough to know better. I hate these kind of guys. You should here the jokes they tell in prison. The thing I hate the most is there not as tough on these perverts in prison as you think.I'll tell all of you plane out if you let theses guys out your children will not be safe. You have to vote some people in office that will put stronger laws into effect to protect our children and grandchildren.

17.5 is 17, no ifs ands or butts about it. He is an adult, she is a minor, therefore the relationship, no matter who started it, was wrong. As the adult and as a person in an inflentual position, he should have had better sense and put a stop to it, knowing it was wrong. He made the decision not to do anything about it and kept it going, so he needs to do the time.

how old is this man? Apparently the student was 17 yrs old and it was consentual. Isn't 17 the age of consent in AR?

Those who know little or nothing about this, beyond what is on TV and in the paper, are understandably going to have strong opinions, mostly against the defendant. It is my understanding, however, that the young woman, who was 17.5 at the time, pursued him and admitted such to the police. Yes, he's admittedly guilty of breaking the law given that he is the adult, but that does not make him a molester. I have full confidence that the judge considered the full picture when handing down the sentence yesterday. As for his time in prison, regardless of the length, it will be a cakewalk compared to how the rest of his life will be affected because of this. He will no longer be allowed to teach, and he'll need to register as a sex offender, which will stay with him the rest of his life.

3 and a half years is pathetic. These lazy prosecutors need to stop accepting guilty pleas from these molestors.
