HOT SPRINGS, AR - Wet and cold weather in the forecast is forcing Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs to change some of its plans until the end of the month.
Oaklawn has postponed all Infield activities until Saturday, March 30, including the picnic blanket giveaway.
Heavy rain and unseasonably cold temperatures in the forecast for this weekend get the blame. Rain was scheduled to begin in the Hot Springs area late this afternoon and continue through Saturday with temperatures in the high 40s.
“We are as disappointed as anyone to cancel, especially after such a spectacular event March 16, but the weather forecast left us no choice,” said Kim Baron, Director of Marketing. “We didn’t want to wait until the last minute to cancel to give people the opportunity to change their plans if needed, although we hope they will still come to enjoy the racing and gaming. As long as Mother Nature cooperates, we look forward to three more fun-filled Infield events this season.”
Oaklawn has 11 races scheduled for Saturday, highlighted by the $75,000 Hot Springs Stakes. Post time for the first race is 1:00 p.m.
Oaklawn says the horses will run rain or shine. The gates open at 11:00 a.m. for racing and 10:00 a.m. for gaming.
The Park Within The Park Infield Event will continue Saturday, March 30, Saturday, April 6 and Saturday, April 13. Activities include Beer Garden, Live Music and Kids Zone with inflatable rides and petting zoo. March 30 will feature an Antique Car Show and April 6 will feature a State Baggo Competition.
