Community in shock after Constable killed

Pine Bluff police are still investigating the shooting death of a Jefferson County constable.
PINE BLUFF, AR - Pine Bluff police are still investigating the shooting death of a Jefferson County constable. Niven Township Constable Tommy Holcomb died after a shootout at the Speedway Gas station on Camden Road.

A popular spit for the Holcombs, Leon's Catfish and Steak House joins in with others remembering the constable.

"Everybody around here really liked Tommy," Tina Nobles of Leon’s Catfish and Steak House said.

Nobles waited on Tommy Holcomb and his family several times. Everyone in the community is still in disbelief.

"I think the whole community is sad about it,” Nobles said. “It's a shock to everyone."

Pine Bluff police say the investigation is incomplete in a shooting they say is a result of road rage. No charges have been files against the man police say fired back at Holcomb. Although the constable is a sworn police officer, police say Holcomb was in civilian clothing and was not driving his marked car.

In the community where he served, you see public condolences marquee boards. The flag is at half-staff where Holcomb served as a volunteer fire firefighter and once led the department as chief. This community awaits the conclusion of the investigation for closure.

"They're wonderful people. They really are,” Nobles said. “I hate it for the family. I'm sorry to hear that. Just bless them all.
