VAN BUREN, Ark. (AP) — Authorities in Crawford County have made a sweep of known sex offenders to remind them they can't give out candy to trick or treaters on Halloween.
Fort Smith television station KFSM reports numerous agencies are taking part in what they're calling "Operation Safe Scare."
Law officers targeted 128 sex offenders living in Crawford County. During the sweep, three convicted offenders were arrested for failing to register. Also two others were charged — one for sexual battery and one for stalking a child.
Deputies asked sex offenders to put up Halloween signs saying, "No trick, no treat, no candy."
Investigators say they couldn't find 25 of the convicted sex offenders. More arrests are possible.
