Cruise ship couple rejoices at Church

Local church members are relieved two of their fellow parishioners are home safe after jumping from the Costa Concordia cruise ship.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Local church members are relieved two of their fellow parishioners are home safe after jumping from the Costa Concordia cruise ship.

Their first day back at church, Mark and Sarah Plath shared the story of their horrible ordeal with the congregation at Crosswalk Family of God. The Little Rock couple is now giving thanks for their safe return home after the Costa Concordia cruise ship wreck off the coast of Italy.

Sarah Plath says her husband told her to jump and swim as fast as she could.

"We could see a big chimney stack on top of the cruise ship falling on top of us, coming down fast, and we thought it was going to crush us, so we swam as fast as we could," she says.

Mark Plath says, "We got to shore and it was very steep rock. We were on top of the rock safe, but our floor where we were was well under water within an hour. We were on the fourth floor and within an hour, the 10th floor of the ship was under water."

The Plath's friends from church say having them back home is the answer to their prayers. While rejoicing over the news, the Plath's tell their friends about their story of survival, and how their relaxing vacation turned into a nightmare on the sea.

David Johnson says, "It's more evidence to us that God is good and even under circumstances that aren't necessarily favorable."

Robert Catchot is excited to have Mark and Sarah home and be able to hug them and tell them how much they are loved.

"It's wonderful to have them back because I know it had to have been a very scary experience, one that probably would test most people's faith, and they came through it just wonderfully." Catchot says it's a blessing to gather around the Plath's and celebrate their safe return.

Sarah's brother, Justin Baines, and his wife Liz were also on the cruise ship. They are also back now in Central Arkansas.
