Deadline Approaching for Unemployment Compensation for Furloughed Workers

533 workers are now eligible to apply for state benefits.
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- More than 500 furloughed federal employees in Arkansas are now eligible to apply for unemployment compensation at the Department of Workplace Services.

According to a release from the D.W.S., workers have until Oct. 10 to apply and need to report to a local office.  You will also need the following:

  • A picture ID

  • Social Security Card

  • Notice to Federal Employee about Unemployment Insurance, OR Notice of Personnel Action

  • A Paystub and the Name and Address of the Federal Agency Worked for

  • A Copy of W-2 for any Federal Agency Worked for during 2012

On Monday, Natasha Russell applied for those benefits.

"I'm still convinced, you know, that tomorrow its going to be better," she said. "It's just really kind of like a slap in the face. I can't express how much I'm in shock, it was sort of odd coming here and getting in line, and not knowing exactly what's going to happen, and what the future holds for even tomorrow."

It's not where she thought she would be a week ago, but this Department of Labor employee said it's a trip she feels she's forced to make because she doesn't know the future.

"Now everything is paid up, but I know in a little bit I'm going to need income for this and that, so I am wondering what's going to be the outcome of that," Russell said.

The Department of Workforce Services says applications have a one week waiting period.
