Deputy that Hit Bicyclist with Car Cleared of Charges

Harding University graduate student Courtney Book died on Oct. 17 after being struck by the deputy while she was riding her bicycle.
SEARCY, AR -- A White County deputy who hit a bicyclist with a car will not face charges.

White County Prosecutor Chris Raff has determined that Deputy Brandon Grimes should not face charges because the accident was unavoidable.

Harding University graduate student Courtney Book died on Oct. 17 after being struck by Grimes while she was riding her bicycle around 9 p.m.

Raff says an independent witness who saw the crash from directly behind the deputy reported that the bicyclist was wearing dark clothing and the bicycle did not have reflectors.
