The other Fox news article stated that he's been fired from another police department for violating policy and assaulting someone. Why did the Hot Springs Police Department hire this guy? I would love to be the homeowner's lawyer right now.

The reason an off-duty pig would follow someone for a traffic violation is simply because he is a harasser. He was probably the little skinny kid in high school who got picked on all the time, which in my opinion makes up the majority of cops. In any case, he had no right to harass this woman and I am only upset that he was not shot in the head.

This don't look right at all. Smells of a cover up.

Ahhh....I see what you're talking about now ARHarley. The article has changed since I looked at it last. You're absolutely right, that IS bizarre.

Why would an off-duty cop follow someone for a 'traffic violation'? At he very least he should have called for an on-duty policeman to make a stop. With all the craziness out there, if my wife called me to say someone was following her who tried to stop her car and that she was going to meet me in the driveway with the other car still following, you betcha I'd be armed and waiting! What do you want to bet the off duty cop was in plainclothes and exited his vehicle with him pistol in hand and tried to take her into custody? There will be an investigation, a suspension with pay, a whitewashing of the evidence, and no charges will be filed against the civilian so that certain facts won't come out in court about what an ass the cop is.

I somewhat agree with alfisher3, there IS a rat! Obviously you other two read a different article than we did. "Officer Ensminger observed a traffic violation on his way home in his private vehicle and followed the vehicle" THAT sentence tells me that he was off duty and on his way home from work. Then it goes on to say, "In the meantime, a resident of Coolwood Drive called the Diamondhead Police Department to say his wife was being followed. When she arrived there was a confrontation at the house with shots being fired by both parties. " Sounds to me like her husband made the call and the reason she didn't stop at the residence was because she was being followed. He had no right to be following her, if he felt it was that bad of a traffic violation, he should have called someone that was ON duty!

next time a cop is tailing you without lights on, slam on the breaks to prevent hitting a squirrel and sue for injury.

Good job alfisher3...great way to get a rumor going. Next time read the whole article before you go tossing accusations around. When asked what Diamondhead police Chief Pat Mahoney's reaction was to when he found out an officer was shot he said, "Well I wasn't sure who he was at first when I was called. I was already off and then they advised me on the radio, we just showed up at the scene. My concern was not actually who it was but how he was and how bad the shot was.

The artical doesn't say the office that was shot was off duty, it says the office that responded to him being shot was already off duty.
