Empty gyms on Super Bowl Sunday

Some people not watching the Super Bowl found alternative ways to spend the evening instead of watching the big game.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Some people not watching the Super Bowl found alternative ways to spend the evening instead of watching the big game.

Gerson Vasquez works at 10 Fitness on Rodney Parham and says Sunday's are typically slow, but due to the Super Bowl, the only people in the gym are either die hard fitness buffs, or people who don't care about the game.

"We still have a few people who came to work out, but they're motivated."

People who came to workout Sunday don't want to ruin their waistline eating unhealthy food. Vasquez says this is the exact opposite of what other people are doing today.

"Instead of coming to the gym, they're home drinking high calorie beer, eating nachos going the opposite of what they're supposed to be doing right now. I'm pretty sure I'm going to see them all tomorrow trying to burn all those calories they've taking in today."

Gym-goers normally frustrated by the crowds can have the place to themselves, and many really don't care about football. Susana Menda works out 7 days a week.

"I'm from Brazil so for us, the big deal is soccer. If you put soccer on TV I would be home, but football is not a reason to stay home from the gym."

The mostly empty gym means people can spend as long as they like on the cardio machines. Sandro Aguilar works out all the time.

"Fitness is my passion. I do maybe 10 times a week." Plus, his team isn't playing, so he cares more about pumping iron than who wins the game.

On Monday all the football fans who indulged on chips and cheese dip will be back at the gym working off those extra pounds.
