LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Drought conditions in Arkansas are showing a slight improvement.
That's according to the latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor, which says 45 percent of Arkansas is in an exceptional drought. That's down from 53 percent a week ago.
Exceptional drought is the worst classification provided by the U.S. Drought Monitor. Thursday's report says 74 percent of the state is in either exceptional or extreme drought — down from nearly 81 percent last week.
Exceptional drought covers much of northern and central Arkansas. Southern Arkansas is primarily classified as severe drought, though parts of Union, Calhoun and Bradley counties are in exceptional drought.
The report covers rainfall received through 6 a.m. Tuesday.
