LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The mother of a fallen soldier said she finds comfort in knowing her son died doing what he loved.
Hope Jacobs-Sharpe said she missed the last phone call from her son Sgt. Jamar Hicks.
When he couldn't reach her, he left a voicemail Saturday night.
On Sunday, Army officials notified the family that Hicks died with two other soldiers from his Kentucky-based unit in Afghanistan.
His mother said the outpouring of love from the community is helping her through this difficult time.
"He told me on Mother's Day that he loved his job, and he was doing what he wanted to do," Jacobs-Sharpe said.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
Hicks leaves behind a wife and a 1-year-old son.
