NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR - Two families are grieving the loss of 28-year-old Joseph Clingmon.
North Little Rock police say Clingmon died from stab wounds at the hand of his girlfriend, 20-year-old Shazzmine Winston. Police are still investigating, but Clingmon's family believes Joseph was murdered. Winston says it was an accident.
Joan Winston says her daughter, had to fight for her life against Joseph Clingmon. Shazzmine says she stabbed him in self defense during an argument around 2:00 am December 7.
So far, there are no arrests or charges in the case. The Winston's say they're now being threatened by those who think Shazzmine got away with murder, but Joan says no one really know what happened. "I wasn't there. No one was there except the baby, Joseph and Shazzmine."
Shazzmine describes her relationship with Joseph as abusive. "A few times I called police and they came out, but I didn't pursue it because I didn't think it would get that far."
Clingmon has an arrest record from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department including several drug charges and an assault charge from last year. Shazzmine says in the early morning hours of December 7th, Clingmon went over the edge. "He started by pulling my hair, and I kept saying just leave, please leave me alone, but he wouldn't. He was choking me and I couldn't take it. I was blacking out off and on. I've never seen that side of him."
Shazzmine says Joseph's death was an accident. "I love him, and now my baby doesn't have his dad."
Joseph Clingmon's family isn't convinced Shazzmine is telling the truth. His mother, Jessie, says she raised her son to never lay a hand on women. "They probably had their little squabble, but he was good. I knew my son, and he took care of his baby."
Jessie says her son left Shazzmine for another woman, but wasn't a violent man. "I want justice for my son."
North Little Rock Police say the investigation is on-going and no further information is available at this time. Police say they have record of at least one prior domestic dispute.
The Winston's say they were longtime friends with the Clingmon family, and Joseph and Shazzmine started dating when she was just 14-years-old, and he was 22 at the time.
