It's a dream Christmas gift for any family - a swimming pool. But much like Clark W. Griswold in the holiday classic, Christmas Vacation, some Arkansans are aren't getting their pools, either.

"We're typically trusting people we usually think people are going to treat us the way we treat them - not so much anymore," said Darin Flippo.

After wiring $8,000 to 'Pool Man Dan', five months later the Flippo's are still waiting for their pool.

"Every Saturday I like to come out and grill and I don't even feel motivated to do that because I look out at the yard and think, "Where's the pool?""

"He has not ordered the items and he has the money," said Mike Rohrer with the Better Business Bureau about 'pool Man Dan'. "He has their money."

Rohrer says the Flippos are just one of five families who paid 'Pool Man Dan' but never got their pool.

"More complaints came in right after and he just quit talking to us," said Rohrer.

The BBB has revoked Pool Man Dan's accreditation but unfortunately for the Flippos, they still won't be getting everything they asked for this Christmas.

"We just really wish we had our pool."

We made phone calls over several days and went by the address 'Pool Man Dan' lists with the Better Business Bureau but haven't gotten a hold of him yet.

If you believe you are the victim of a scam, call the Better Business Bureau at (501)664-4888.

Our pool was installed by Rick Seawright over 10 years ago. Mr. Seawright was very professional and made several trips over the years to help us with minor repairs. He has returned our calls and we are extremely satisfied with his work and would recommend him. As for Dan, I think that he fell on hard times and took the wrong path out.

We purchased a kit from Dan 2 years ago. It arrived on time and as promised. However, the installer he hooked us up with, Rick Seawright, did very, very poor work. The plumbing for our pool has leaked for over a year and the installer refuses to come and fix it after agreeing to do so.

Lord have mercy. Yes in construction there is always up front money to bet the things started. Then the rest is paid in stages as the work goes. Been done that way for years. I started construction work in the 60's. I don't think it has changed. Have your attorney contact his bonding company.

I am Dianna, the lady in the story. I understand it is easy to criticize others, but Willow is 100 percent correct. We contacted MANY pool dealers in Arkansas, including Pool Man Dan, and no dealer will begin the process without a deposit. It is much like building a house; contractors will do no work without a deposit. Willow is also correct that 8,000 dollars is definitely not the entire cost of the pool! We also knew others that used Pool Man Dan, and each one had a positive experience. It is unfortunate that Pool Man Dan has destroyed his business as well as cost many customers a great deal.

We are one of the 5 families that purchased a pool from Dan in Little Rock. Please have horse sense to know the process before posting. The deposit the Flippos made is small fraction of the total cost. If you call any pool dealer in Little Rock, they will not place an order for a pool without a deposit. If you believe a pool only costs $8000, you lack horse sense as well. Pool Man Dan has built pools for 4 of my friends; however, apparently, he is having money issues and laundered the money, rather than using the deposit for the order. Note to self: you have to pay some in advance if you would like a pool. CAD drawings and specs are required. These are costly.

If these people can afford a pool then they had to be smart enough to acquire the money where is the horse sense to pay when delivered?

It'd be nice if these crooked contractors would get as much jail time as someone caught with their own stash of pot.
