LITTLE ROCK, AR - Wearing pink shirts and handing out pink carnations, advocates for fighting breast cancer gathered at the Big Dam Bridge Sunday evening for the very first Illuminate the Cure event.

“[It is] a tribute to all the moms and all the hard work they do and it's the most rewarding thing," Mother Mandy Schuster said.

The goal is to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

"One of our family members mothers had breast cancer, and it being Mother’s Day, it’s a pretty important day,” James Frank, who lost a loved one to cancer said. “It's a big deal for everyone."

Mother’s Day is the prefect day to honor and to remember those mothers who have passed.

"This is the time for everybody to remember those who have gone on, and try to keep it from happening again."

Illuminate the Cure participants say today is an important day to remember how special our mothers are.

"I can't think of a better way to celebrate my mother and my wife's mother both , who passed away from cancer,” Michael Many, who lost his mother to cancer said. “These are the kinds of things we want to do as a family, to share stuff like this is pretty spectacular."

With the release of 500 floating lateens signifying the women who bring so much light to our lives, the evening sky was filled with a warm pink glow.
