LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The father of a soldier who was fatally shot outside a military recruiting center in Arkansas will testify at a joint hearing of the House Committee on Homeland Security and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

Daris Long is scheduled to appear as a witness at a meeting Wednesday in Washington.

Long's son, Pvt. William Andrew Long, and Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula were shot as they smoked cigarettes outside the Little Rock recruiting center in 2009. Ezeagwulu survived.

The man accused of killing Long, Abdulhakim Muhammad, had said he shot the two soldiers in retaliation for U.S. military action in the Middle East.

Muhammad agreed to a plea deal in July that allowed him to plead guilty to capital murder and receive life in prison without parole.
