LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The National Weather Service says flash flooding is possible in much of western Arkansas as a slow-moving storm makes its way across the state.
Forecasters say a flash flood watch is in place for the western half of the state until Wednesday night. The weather service is predicting widespread heavy rains over the next few days with an average of 3 to 6 inches falling.

Forecasters say that amount of rain could cause serious flash flooding, as well as local flooding in creeks, streams and rivers.
The watch includes all of western Arkansas, extending to Mountain Home, Hot Springs and Arkadelphia.
The weather service notes that 18 people died last year because of floods — compared with 12 people who were killed by tornadoes.
