I lived in Austin for years. My only regret ... that I lived in Austin for years. Most of the police force there are overweight do nothings who have an over developed sense of self importance. Look in the sex offender registry and you will find a great number per-capita offenders around Austin. Why are there so many sex offenders in that area around Austin... because it's easy. Do yourselves a favor if you live in the Austin area, keep your guns loaded and if anything happens call the county or state police, maybe they'll be there when the Austin cops get there to make sure everything is ok.

Sparrow, some good points. we should expect high standards from our officers. they should be role models for our community. and for the most part, i agree with wpsark, most of them are good. and by all accounts so is this man. i know it sounds like he did it from the news media. but, all we have is an accusation. and sparrow... it does matter what she was arrested for. it goes towards motive. and resignation smelling of guilt is a bit conspiratorial, don't you think. their are many reasons, better job, maybe he thought it would be better till investigation was over, maybe he had other issues at the department, you just don't know. its bad form to make that conclusion, based on the evidence. you wouldn't want some one to judge your decision's out of perspective would you.

People said that Charles Manson and Jeffrey Dahmer were "good people" also.

It doesn't matter what she was arrested for. What matters is we should be able to expect to those in positions of power to held to higher standards than those they "protect" us from. His resignation smells of guilty. Why else would he? Maybe he did because this wasn't the first time he'd been reported? Or maybe Austin doesn't want anyone to take a good look at their whole department either.

well I wonder what the supposed victim was arrested for? I'm sure she's not of the best character....There are many crooked cops out there for sure but more so than not, they're honest and good people who are just trying to do something good.

Mad Hatter, your just shallow, he is a bit overweight but so are most Americans these days. if you had just been arrested and placed in some ridiculous pink cloths, you would look like hell to. Tired, if you think their are no good cops, you are "Obviously" wrong. What the hell are you talking about, cops not being held to a higher standard. That also is just to true ,,, ANYWHERE. I agree that vets have been exposed to more risk then cops, just by pure circumstance. however, being a cop has got to be a close second. they put in danger all the time. most often when protecting people like you. maybe you should remember that. To a criminal cops may seem like "Thugs with a badge", but if your a criminal then you have lost your right to have an opinion. AmberJack, I'm glad you feel your better others. Enjoy your hate filled life. Everybody, please don't listen to these people. Remember, you would want others to give you the benefit of a doubt, if you were accused of something like this. especially if you were innocent. Cop or not, this guy is a human being with a family and as far as i can gather, a great reputation in his community. you should read some of the conversations happening on Facebook. people in his community support him. that should mean something to intelligent thinking people. as someone who has had good experiences with police, i think it is sad that people are so threatened by authority figures that they feel the need to attack them. remember these are the people that come to help when you are in trouble. their is no telling how many people this man has helped or even saved. but as soon as an accusation pops up, we forget about all the good he has done for his community. come on people keep your perspective straight. What is one saved life worth.

It would be interesting to know who this woman is and why she was arrested. Couldve been she was trying to get out of going to jail, then she turned the tables on him, or something to that tune. But my question is this. If he is going to maintain his innocence, why did he resign? The least he could have done to help his defense is stay on the force and be placed on admin leave. By him resigning, it doesnt help him much. This town also just had a volunteer fireman get arrested for stealing communication devices. He put an ad on the internet asking for help in how to install the specific device, which was reported stolen.
