Very impressive word usage arête. Although you obviously have spent a good chunk of your daddy's money on an education to sound smart, you still bring up no facts. I am not a lobbyist, or an employee of an oil company. Just like you I am just concerned. I have been researching the hydraulic fracturing process for a while now, and can not find any facts that any environmental problems are caused by it. There is as always human error, but the process seems sound. Any concerns I have found are in the drilling, and cementing areas. I am still not sold on disposal wells either(although earthquakes are not likely connected) I have spoken to geologists, chemical engineers, ADEQ, and yes members of the oil and gas industry, and there are no facts supporting your fears. The only people I can find that want to bother the argument are lobbyists against the energy sector. But as you agreed we are in a situation that we are reliant on fossil fuels. The harder the lobby groups push the gas companies away, the harder we need to look at overseas dependancy. I would rather find facts make educated decisions and support our own citizens, instead. Natural gas is the cleanest solution to energy needs, and it can be safely extracted and used locally. But if you can come up with actual facts, please let me know, I am not above hearing both sides. But all negative facts I have found have been debunked.

@ Password- My what an impassioned ad hominem on behalf of the maligned, philanthropic gas and chemical companies….one would almost think you were either in their employ or a lobbyist. You do raise some interesting points I will address in the order that you presented them: 1. Maybe it’s time the Natural Gas Companies practiced transparent accountability to the communities that they take their profits from. The last time I checked, none of them were non-profits. 2. I don’t recall that the jobs the Gas Companies provided significantly abated or drastically reduced the joblessness and misery of the “recession that hit the rest of the country for the last 3 years.” Perhaps you are privy to some figures from independent sources to back this assertion that I am not aware of. I would love to see them. Such independent findings are the difference between “facts” and assertions. 3. I agree with our assertion that at present we are addicted to petro-chemical, combustion engine technologies. The entropic hidden costs of living this way have been debated by partisans on both sides of the issue for decades now. For me the pertinent question is: Must we continue to devote our resources to bolstering these entropic, hidden-cost, diminishing returns (you should look at the Peak Oil idea…fascinating really) technologies and their attendant politico-economic-social effects? It is not whether I must stop believing in a perpetual fear-generating press to believe you; or to get the “education” you would approve of so that I can become complacent and pliabley profitable for the gas companies. 4. I have seen Gasland. If one-tenth of those chemicals are being put into groundwater for the sake of some companie’s profit, it is too much. I wonder if your position would change if you woke up to foul smelling, combustible water pouring from your tap?

@ Steve Brule....From a Fool- You have resources that you afre willing to share regarding carbon filtering of chemicals from water? What other "right methods and technology" are you referring to? Can you sight independent research resources on water's high resilience to chemical contanmination? WHat kinds of chemical contamination is water highly resilient to? Is there a range in the efficaciousness of its resiliency based upon the chemical or mix of chemicals in the water in quesiton? Last quesiton: How long have you been drinking post filtered chemical contaminated water? I am no idiot but can attempt to converse, intelligently with someone who lacks courtesy. I look forward to your provision of the requested research and sources Steve.

Have you idiots never heard of carbon filters? Seriously, stop being frantic about nothing.....this isn't that big of a deal. Water is highly resilient to chemical contamination and can be easily filtered if the right methods and technology are used.

OUTRAGEOUS behavior. Wake up people, this isn't an issue of fracking or anti-fracking causes. THIS IS OUR DRINKING WATER. Stop environmentally careless companies !!

Now there has been a farmer that came forward claiming ownership to the barrels. Now we can go back to blaming earthquakes on the industry. oh wait it is the 2nd biggest fault line in north america, and has been for over 200 years. maybe it is time to stop looking for ways to run the natural gas companies out of the community and be thankful that they were here to get us through the recession that hit the rest of the country for the last 3 years. no one can live without the use of the oil and gas industry so embrace it. if you drive a vehicle, heat your house, have electricity, you need this industry. if you have anything that has paint, plastic, glue, you need this industry. any supplies you would need to not use any of the above, the factories that supply them need the industry. so you can try to light your water on fire, complain about natural disasters, file class action suits. the only thing that will make a difference is to get some education on what is actually done in these processes, and stop believing the press. it is there business to create fear and if you blindly follow, you are adding to the problem, not the solution. there are many online sites that explain the drilling process from survey, to completion(which includes fracking). there is also a list of chemicals that is made public that anyone can see. you will see that number is not even close to the numbers stated on "gasland".

why does the title say fracking chemicals, but the article says drilling chemicals. they are 2 different services. all drums have batch mix numbers on them and can be traced to the company that bought them. this would not have been authorized by the purchaser. that area is full of people that would set up the industry to try to get it shut down, even at the safety risk of the community.
