BALD KNOB, Ark. (AP) — The Bald Knob City Council has approved a ban on bingo games with cash prizes over concerns about gambling issues at the town's senior citizens' center.
The Daily Citizen reports that the council approved the ban this week. Mayor Doyle Wallace says he's received several letters from concerned residents about the games, which are run by the White County Aging Program.
Alderman Johnny Hodges says the games tend to draw more players from nearby Searcy than Bald Knob. Hodges says many seniors in Bald Knob no longer use the senior citizens' center because of the games.
The council says bingo can still be played at the center — as long as no cash prizes are awarded. The ban takes effect at the end of the month.
