HOT SPRINGS, AR - A deputy responding to call Saturday night lost control of his patrol car in a corner and hit a business.

Lt. James "Corky" Martin says the accident happened at the corner of Park Avenue and Bailey Place about 9pm. Part of the concrete façade of the business fell on the car, destroying it, Martin says. The business received "substantial damage."

The deputy was treated and released from a local hospital with no injuries.

Ya'll dont go praising Bill Shelley for his comments. Ask him why he was fired from Jacksonville Police Department. I live there, and know the real reason. A off duty cop from another town witnessed a drug deal, held them there until JPD arrived. The drug dealers were released and the person that called it is was arrested. Mr. Shelley was fired because of that incident, which resulted in a racial discrmination lawsuit. Why did you let the drug dealers go Bill? Why did you arrest the one that called it in?

Truth--- They are only human, just like the rest of us. And just like any place in life there are good , bad and the best. I know they make mistakes just like I do. And I am so very grateful for to those that put their self out there for my safety. It is the times that you run across those that are no better than the people they lock up that makes it so hard. Because there is power behind that badge. And that power can take a good man down. It is so hard to fight a battle between you and the man with a badge. No matter how right you are.

You know I have a cousin that is a police officer. A nephew that is a K-9 handling officer. These peoples jobs are important to all of us. Although if we put them on pedestals they seem to fall hard. Officer or not we have to hold people responsible for their actions or lack of. I've always heard that laughter is the best medicine. It's sometimes the only way to keep from crying. The bottom line is we have a right to our laughter and that this officer was not hurt. Now he has learned something that will benefit us all. Always be aware of the unexpected. Thank you for your service.

Ok guys I like laughing and joking around just as well as the next person, however this is no laughing matter. What was he responding to? Your girlfriend beeing raped? Your baby choking to death? Your Father having a heart attach? We may never know. What caused him to run off the road? Car pull out in front of him? Deer in the road? A person in dark clothes walking in the street or crossing the street? Again we may never know. All of these I have had happen to me driving in the same area. If I had run into this building I would of deserved a ticket, but I should of been doing the 35 mph speed limit. He was responding to an emergency. So lighten up on him!! When I was working as a medic, I have worked with police departments all over Arkansas and Mississippi. I for one wouldn't want thier job, long hours, low pay, life on the line at any moment, and I promise you that you do not want to see some of the things they have seen and had to deal with. And as for the Lady Officer mentioned earlier, if she had on her lights and siren and that man didn't get out of her way it WAS his fault, no matter how the accident happened. I'm in no way offended by the earlier comments, just pointing out what could of happened and how the life of a police officer is.

Well I was only going with the rest in a joking manner. Bill if you have to be such a stick in the mud remember this. Had you done this you would have gotten a ticket. Then wonder what makes him any better than the rest of us. Oh my god I have offended the feelings of another. Get your feelings off your sleeve and your bladder out from under your eye and join the rest of us fun loving and joking people. Or let my name sour in your mouth.

Thank you Bill and Fardy! This is what happens when people don't move to the right when there are lights and sirens. People complain because cops speed and when they're too slow to a call. SERIOUSLY!!! If it was you or your family who needed help you would want them to be there as fast as possible too. So excuse him for trying to save a life and almost losing his.

Well Its good to see everybody has a sense of humor. But before you roll on the floor laughing just remember the man/woman behind the badge is also human. Even though he/she is suppose to walk around like a robot.He/she not suppose to cry when they sees a baby lifeless, a parent mourning the lost of a child,a wife who just lost a husband or the other way around. He/she suppose to have all the answers and solve all of your problems, but be laughed at, heckeled, cussed when you don't need him or her. Don't tell me they knew what the job would bring when they took it. Seeing different crimes bring out different emotions and if the show saddest they're weak, if they don't they're hard nose and don't care about anybody or anything. This deputy was going on a call, they didn't say what kind. Their primary objective is to get there safely. But while he's enroute he having to think, what kind of call he heading into, domestic (one of the worst calls for officers) more officers are killed on those then any other calls. Burglary in progress, suspects could be armed(ambush maybe) House fire (someone inside) Baby choking, could have been any of above. But lets have him follow all the speed limits, and traffic laws. Your right Butch54 lets give him a ticket, because none of the above was happening to you or your family. Remember there's always two sides to an accident. 1. Someone pulled out in front of him and he took actions to avoid an accident 2. Something on his unit malfunction because there wore out. I was once told "they're a necessary evil" when you don't need one stay away from me, if you need one where are they at and why aren't they here. Me, I like the ones that served and I'm glad they chose to put their life on the line so our familes can sleep peacefully through the night. I'm also glad the deputy wasn't hurt bad enough for them to keep. If my tax dollar has to go to buy him another unit, its a small price to pay for someone that puts their life on the line for us.
