LITTLE ROCK, AR – The great-grandparents of a 2-year-old who died in a hot car in northwest Arkansas last week have been charged with negligent homicide.

Joniah Chronister was left in the car while William and Margette Staten were shopping inside a Walmart. Police say the child was left in the car with no air conditioning for about two hours.

Police say when paramedics arrived, the child did not have a pulse. The child was pronounced dead at Northwest Medical Center.

Good, they need to charge everyone in these cases, think about it, if not then this will become the method for getting rid of unwanted children. I think several have already gotten away with it.

Sad story.my g-ma is 80 and I wouldn't put her in the position to have to be responsible for small children.she can barely find her glasses.

Appreciate the details Libertarian. I was wondering about that also. But then I thought, if they were feeble minded; then someone dropped the ball by allowing them to take care of a two year old child. A 51 year old and a 61 year old, leaving a 2 year old child in a car in this heat; lock 'em up for a long time as pat said.

I had to go to another news source to get details. I thought as GREAT grandparents, could they be showing signs of dementia? But the other source says "William James Staten, 51, and Margette Inise Staten, 61"

It is a shame....but these people SHOULD BE LOCKED UP FOR A LOOOONG TIME. I am sure they are suffering, but they should never have even considered leaving a child that young alone to start with. God Bless anyone who loved this child.
