for a grocery store to have enough generators to cover all refrigeratored/frozen cases for a power outage such as this storm caused would cost in the MILLIONS of dollars. Then you would all be on here complaining because they raised your grocery prices to pay for it!

After my last hurricane and no power for 7 days down here in Grayton Beach, I learned to have a generator at the house down here and the one in LR.

The electric company should give a break on next months bill to help its customers. But im sure we will pay more to help pay for the linemen from other state who came to help. Than you for the help by the way!!!

seems like it would have been a better business decision to have had a generator installed that would keep the cold/frozen food cold/frozen. That's a whole lot of money out with the trash - story says $14k plus the meat and dairy. That kind of money would get you a 48kW Kohler.

I grew up in the north where ice storms and lots of snow and loosing electricity at least a couple of days every winter is normal. Since I don't have a generator here, we just packed all our freezer food and cold food into those giant, clear zip bags that comforters come in and buried it in a hard, snow packed mound. Everything was still frozen solid when we got power back on. Thankfully we have gas water heater so even without power we could take a hot shower, and if you have gas stove you can still cook a hot meal.

Plugged the refrigerators and freezer into the generator and didn't loose anything, power was out for 5 days.

The temperature outside was colder than normal refrigerators for most of the time. Did anyone move items from the refrigerator into coolers and place them in the back yard?
