LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Quynci Joyner mixes her recipe for the Guns and Hoses chili cookoff. Joyner, who is also Mrs. Jacksonville 2012, says she wanted to support the event. It raises scholarship money for the children of police, firefighters, and EMTs.
"They are very important in the community. So I decided to come out and show my support," said Joyner.
Radio personalities from "The Corey and Jay Show" are the brainchildren behind the function. The two created an account, called "The September Fund", after the devastating 9-11 terror attacks.
"The fund means a lot to us. It means a lot to our listeners, those who listen to the Edge of course," said personality Jay Hamilton.
Cooks handed out plenty of chili, even though some people had to find heartburn relief. Nonetheless, teams fought to win.
" Our scholarships are usually one thousand dollar scholarships. So we definitely raised enough money today to raise money for students," said personality Corey Deitz.
