FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Paul Haynes relishes the chance at competing in the Southeastern Conference.

The new Arkansas defensive coordinator says the allure of coaching in the SEC, as well as running his own defense, were the primary reasons he left Ohio State to join the Razorbacks.

Haynes was hired by Arkansas on Friday after spending the last seven seasons with the Buckeyes. He was the co-defensive coordinator for Ohio State this season but will have the opportunity to be in charge at Arkansas, where former defensive coordinator Willy Robinson resigned last week.

Haynes previously coached with Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino while the two were with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, and he has no doubt Arkansas can field a top defense.

The No. 6 Razorbacks (10-2) face Kansas State in the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 6.
