JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled in the case of an Arkansas man accused of killing a police officer.

A hearing for Jerry Lard is slated for Thursday in Jonesboro.

Lard was charged with capital murder after prosecutors said he shot and killed Trumann Officer Jonathan Schmidt during a traffic stop last year.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case.

Lard has pleaded not guilty to capital murder, attempted capital murder and possession of methamphetamine, along with a firearms charge.

He is scheduled to go on trial in July.

I think by now that any of us with any sense can see where this will head. His attorney is going to plea not guilty by reason of mental defect. All of these "mentally ill people" going around killing people is making me sick. Its making me sick to the point, that I think I may be having a mental breakdown and I starting to suffer great depression and its affecting my everyday life. Sounds like the making of a killer, huh? This is how these "mentally ill people" think.
