HOT SPRINGS, AR – A former Fountain Lake teacher is arrested and charged with sexual assault of a student and computer child pornography.

According to the Garland County Sheriff's report, 34-year-old Timothy O'Shields had inappropriate contact with a 17-year-old girl at school and sent her sexual pictures of himself.

Fountain Lake School District Superintendent Darin Beckwith says law enforcement was contacted as soon as allegations that English teacher Timothy O'Shields sent a 17-year-old student a picture of his penis, requesting oral sex. "Our kids safety will and always has been our number one priority here at Fountain Lake, making sure our kids are safe."

The report from the Garland County Sheriff's office says O'Shields asked the girl to sneak out of her house to meet him several times a week for sex acts, and that he kissed and groped the girl two different times at school.

Students say that behavior does not fit the teacher they know from class. Students describe him as funny and easy to get a long with, and they're upset by the allegations.

According to investigators, the girl's parents found out and confronted O'Shields. The report says he apologized for his actions and sent a message to the mother saying he would resign from teaching, pay for counseling, and offered them additional money. O'Shields did resign from the school. He's out of jail and back home with his family. FOX 16 tried to talk to O'Shields but no one answered the door.

Neighbors say they're sick over the allegations. Randy Johnson lives across the street. "Somebody needs to keep him away from the kids. They should make him move out of the neighborhood away from the wife and kid."

Jennifer Halcombe knows Mrs. O'Shields. "I feel very bad for the wife for the cheating and for it being a minor. I feel very bad for her."

O'Shields appears in court February 14th.

Then you would want an adult to talk to your child in that manner? No child? How about neice, nephew, grandchild or any other relative? Perv's usually always start out with words. Sad but TRUE you have to prove you are innocent first in this state.

Child porn in THIS instance is being lewd and talking sexual to anyone under 17. This is NOT a matter of picturea of little kids in sex acts. THAT is not a sicko or wacko...its not kiddie porn pics. Arkansas code 5-27-603. Its is what he is charded with nothing about pictures...and the pictures ARE aledged...so some people should shut their judgments up till trial...

nospinzone All I know to tell you is if you ever get in any trouble with the law...... You'll find out how true that's not. They say that but if you are the one behind bars. you will have to prove you're innocents to get out or stay out... You can count on that!!!!

People say what they want, but Tim o'shields is not a bad person, nor a whacko, nor a pervert as some have said. Sounds like the media has already decided before there is even a court case. Let's bypass due process and order the firing square right now...I thought in America people were INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty!!!

all of the people on here saying that this man is not stupid...well it's pretty stupid to engage in any type of relationship, other than educational, with a high school student. Good guy or not, he knew better. Do I believe they should charge him with sexual assault, no I don't. He didn't assault her and it's not like she's a child, the girl's 17, hardly an innocent age. I know b/c I used to be a 17 yr old girl who had plenty of crushes on my male teachers but they were professional enough to not be a perv. He should be stripped of his teaching priviledges though..
