LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - High temperature records have either been set or tied in Arkansas.
The National Weather Service says the mercury peaked at 105 degrees in Little Rock Friday afternoon, one degree hotter than the 104-degree record set on July 20, 2006. In southwest Arkansas, the temperature reached 108 degrees in Fort Smith, three degrees hotter than the 105-degree temperature record set in 1934.
In northwest Arkansas, Friday's afternoon temperature of 101 degrees in Fayetteville tied the previous record of 101 on July 20, 2006.
The weather service forecast calls for the heat to continue, with highs in the 90s and low 100s through at least Wednesday. There will be a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms, mainly across the south, through Monday.
