FAYETTEVILLE, AR - Friday after the football team's scrimmage, Arkansas Offensive Coordinator Paul Petrino was asked about his relationship with his brother Bobby, who was recently fired as the team's head coach.
"He's my brother, I'm going to love him," said the younger Petrino.
While he's Bobby's only brother on the team, many other Razorbacks feel like they've lost a family member.
"Anytime something like that happens, there's a lot of confusion, a lot of that stuff, said senior quarterback Tyler Wilson.
"Everything that Coach Petrino has told me, I still take it to this day," added senior defensive end Tank Wright. "Coach Petrino is one great coach."
The next hurdle for the team is who will take over. Assistant head coach Taver Johnson currently has the interim tag, but Paul Petrino and defensive coordinator Paul Haynes have both had equal say.
"It's about just taking on the adversity and getting ready to unite," said Johnson. "You got to make sure everybody's into it, not just the football players or the coaches, it's the entire university, the entire community."
"When you've got leadership within, and they feel comfortable with the assistant coaches and we're all a fist, it's going great," said Paul Petrino.
The players have responded well to the new format and some wouldn't mind it becoming a permanent fixture.
"I would love to see one of those guys take the spot, unfortunately it has to go through the administration, said Wright. "All I can do is express my feeling towards the coaches that we have right now."
Regardless of who's in charge, the team's goals have not changed.
"We're going to be a successful football team, and our goals are still in place," said Wilson. "He (Petrino) instilled the ideas and the philosophies and if we continue those, we'll be a heck of a football team."
If you want to see a finished product of the Razorbacks spring workouts, the Red-White scrimmage will be held Saturday, April 21st at 2 pm inside Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
