LITTLE ROCK, AR – Modern gun deer season is set to open across the state 30 minutes before dawn this Saturday. Thousands of hunters in Arkansas spent the Veterans Day holiday getting supplies and making their way to deer camp.

The door at Gibbs Hunter's Outpost only gets in the way of the hundreds of hunters in and out of the store grabbing last-minute supplies before heading to the woods.

"It takes a couple of days to prepare before you begin your hunt," said veteran hunter Steve DeMoss.

DeMoss has the annual routine down to a science. He started hunting when he was ten.

"When you go hunting with your father and he takes you out for your first time - that's quite a memorable experience that I'll always have," he said.

"It's family oriented, which is super," said store owner Buddy Gibbs. "That's what we need to do. Build that tradition in our children."

Like many Arkansans, this is Gibbs favorite time of year.

"This is our Christmas," he said. "This is what we truly enjoy."

So he knows to keep the deer corn stocked, and the line at the register moving.

"When we came in and opened this place, people truly would quit a job it their boss told them they couldn't go hunting.

The statewide limit is six deer, with no more than two legal bucks, with the different limits depending on which of the 25 zones you hunt in.

Deer season lasts until December 4th, with some zones extended until Christmas.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission would like to remind hunters to remember to report your kill. AGFC says you have 24hrs to report after bagging the deer. You can call 866-305-0808, log onto their reporting website, or use their iPhone App.
