I-30 Backed Up Near Bryant after Pursuit Ends in Officer-Involved Shooting

Traffic is being backed up on Interstate 30 after a police pursuit led to an officer-involved shooting.
BENTON, AR -- Traffic is being backed up on Interstate 30 after a police pursuit led to an officer-involved shooting.

Benton Police say they tried to execute a traffic stop near Alcoa Road, when the suspect sped away and led them onto I-30.

Officers put stop sticks down in two separate locations, but the suspect drove over them both times.

After his tires deflated from driving over the stop sticks, the suspect then got out and started firing at officers, according to BPD.

Officers got out of their vehicles and returned fire, killing the suspect.

Current traffic reports indicate the standstill on westbound I-30 starts just before Reynolds Road and extends through Springhill Road.

Reports also indicate that eastbound traffic is backing up from Caldwell Drive to Springhill Road, as well as nearby areas of State Highway 5 and Frontage Roads.
