The busiest interchange in the state of Arkansas is getting a new name but drivers will still encounter construction for years at "Big Rock Interchange" in west Little Rock.

Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department director Scott Bennett told reporters Wednesday that the 430 / 630 interchange project remains on track for a 2014 completion.

AHTD does want drivers to be aware of some recent change of traffic patterns in the construction zone during the holidays.

Shackleford Road is now running one lane northbound and four lanes southbound.  Bennett says that configuration will not change until early 2012.

The project is currently in the $78 million third phase of a three phase project.

The AHTD website now features an animation showing drivers how traffic will flow through the area once construction wraps up.

PMSL ! Progress, at the edge of a steel blade pushed by a diesel powered bulldozer spewing noxious toxic fumes and scarring the earth, precipitated by the need to satisfy the ever increasing appetite of destructive and wasteful humans. Soon we will have even more space, to pack gasoline fume spewing automobiles manned by a single occupant, onto every square inch of nature paved over in the name of progress

OK I looked at the "2025" picture. Doesn't make any sense to me..looks like an unnessary CLOVER LEAF? How in God's name is 630 and Shackleford going to handle the projected traffic projected to use the projected intersection? Just wonderin'

protector20....people who have a lot of booklearning don't always have any common sense. Sometimes I think that is why they pursued(sp) so much booklearning ...trying to "get smart". I have been meaning to call the Highway Dept. for years and tell them that in any other state there would be a sign at the top of that hill going from the Cantrell exit down to the river telling truck drivers what the % of grade is and how long it is..OR at least a hill sign/curve and low gear. It is deceiving..ONLY IN ARKANSAS

Ridiculous...I hated it when they cut that big swath through the woods and over the river and this mess at Shackleford...is this really necessary...BIG ROCK was the area at the bottom of CANTRELL hill back in the day...doesn't have any meaning whatsoever on Shackleford. But then again CHENAL might be an upity way of referring to Shinall Mountain out Hwy 10...The town is not getting prettier, just bigger. God Bless

Whoever designed this intersection when it was first built has got to be the most narrowminded engineer I have ever seen.
