Inmates fill thousands of sandbags in Faulkner Co

Faulkner County has given residents thousands of sandbags for free over the past couple of days in preparation for Isaac.
CONWAY, AR - Faulkner County has given residents thousands of sandbags for free over the past couple of days in preparation for Isaac.

The demand has been so great, people have actually had to wait for hours to pick their sandbags up.

Thousands of sandbags are all over Faulkner county right now, and almost all of them come from right here -- six low-risk, non-violent inmates who've been working around the clock since Tuesday.

Deputy Mike Wilkins with the Faulkner county Sheriff’s Office says, "They’ve worked harder then I'd ever care to work. They really put out the effort and they're getting the job done."

The sandbags end up at fire departments around the county. People are picking them up faster than these guys can bag them.

But it gets them out of jail and it means they're helping their community.

"They're more than willing to help and get the job done,” Deputy Wilkins says. “They've really worked good."
