Isaac leaves Pine Bluff flooded

PINE BLUFF, AR – More than 8 inches of rain caused widespread flooding throughout Jefferson County Friday leaving unsafe roads and stranded drivers. The Office of Emergency Management reports that about 20 homes were flooded.

Due to the flooding, the Pine Bluff School District sent students home early. In the Dollarway School District, Superintendent Frank Anthony says between 50 and 75 students were picked up early.

Emergency responders urge residents to stay home. The amount of rain in such a short time span caused drainage issues and unsafe roads.

“It’s just mind boggling because people still try to make it through high water and they’re getting stuck,” says Officer Chris Kendrick, with the Pine Bluff Police Department.

As a result, police are blocking off roads, and also dealing with the unexpected.

"This is Hestand Stadium and it's actually, as you can see, it used to be grass over here, grass and some dirt, and as you can see now, it's almost a lake," said Kendrick.

Many neighborhoods are in bad shape too. Sonya Moore’s is flooded. "I hope the bus don't let my child out at the bus stop because the bus stop is under water."

A shelter at the White Hall United Pentecostal Church is also available to anyone who needs it. Beyond that, one more time, emergency responders say stay off the road.

"I drive an F-150 and I won't even take that through the waters,” said Kendrick. “You know like I said, just use common sense. If you don't have to travel, stay home."
