You know there is a "Neighborhood Watch" sign at the entrance to OUR subdivision. What does that mean? It means we AS NIEGHBORS need to help each other out. We have lived here since Aug and we have only seen 2 of our neighbors and only talk two one of them about once a week! I'am by no means saying you need to like all of your neighbors, but maybe if we could know our neighbors at least it would help. It would help to know the "normal" way your neighbors function on a daily basis so others know when something is out of the ordinary with their neighbors. Maybe we as a community need to set and establish monthly crime prevention or neighborhood watch meetings? Not all JPD's fault on this.

These Break-ins are not new, this was reported to JPD on Nov 2011 because my vehicle was broken into along with 4 other vehicles and those weapons were reported then. It's coming to light because an arrest has been made. Both my financial institutions have sent me letters indicating the case is close. I just want to know if JPD is going to contact me. Old break-ins new twist. At least they didn't say teenagers did it this time. Victim of three theft of property. Doors locked windows busted out all break-ins occured before 6am because by 0647 they were pumping gas at 4 service stations between NLR and SWLR and University, and I still haven't heard from the POLICE!

Benton Police Department's takehome vehicles are not given to people who live outside the city (except for a couple on call exceptions who do not live anywhere near Jacksonville). Some of the details on this story are wrong, and missing.

Not sure if Jacksonville PD or news has it wrong but most of the cars WERE locked. There was one lock drilled out and another pried open with a screwdriver. Just because they did not break glass does not mean the cars were left unlocked. Probably trying to cover up the fact that they annexed that area but never patrol it because it's more in Gravel Ridge than in Jacksonville. If you want the taxes, might want to take care of the neighborhoods.

This is pure rocket science for the police department and Fox16 news. If I were trying to catch a thief of this sort I would surely figure they have computer or tv to see this and stop and lay low. What ever happen to a sting where cops would hide in a van and watch to catch this sort of crime or even leave a vehicle exposed to catch a thief? I'm by no means a cop or criminal but this is poor, very poor detective and police work.

wpsark, the offense is legally titled "breaking or entering", which does cover entering a unlocked vehicle, home, etc. I wondered that myself once before but had it shown to me by a judge and attorney. Either way, a thief had an easy day thanks to people that are to lazy to lock their vehicles.

is it actually "breaking in" when the vehicle is unlocked?

Jacksonville is 75% ghetto. Was it a Benton police car that was broken into, or was it their personal vehicle that had weapons in it? I see a lot of Benton, LR, NLR police cars at houses in Jacksonville and a bunch in Cabot. That is a lot of tax dollars wasted on fuel travelling those distances.
