JACKSONVILLE, AR – Despite being down the street from the Jacksonville Police Department, residents of Stone Street have been burglarized 6 times in the last 8 months. One resident was robbed twice in that span, and police have no suspects in the crimes.

Jenny Harrison’s home was burglarized in April after culprits smashed the back door to get in the house. They came back just before Thanksgiving to steal more.

“They threw a 2x4 through our window this time and then they went in through the back door and stile basically the same thing, the TV and the Wii,” says Harrison.

Like many neighbors on Stone Street, Harrison continues fighting back against the burglars who keep coming back, and it is costing her money. She put new security bars on the back door and installed an alarm system.

“It’s really disturbing what we have to do,” says Harrison.

Police have helped as well. Harrison asked for extra patrols, and got them. She feels that the criminals know the residents’ schedules. Police say more marked and unmarked cars now patrol her street.

Police do not have any suspect descriptions for any of the break-ins. They ask residents to report any suspicious activity, and if you see a crime in progress, pick up the phone and call 911.

I've been broken into twice. Insurance helps, but does nothing for the feeling of being violated. We need police foot patrols not drive by vehicles. We live in fear on Stone Street. I sleep with a gun. I don't think the police are publicising all the breakins; to do that would hurt the realty business and prevent the city from getting the State Fair or other big-money attractions. I think those are more important to the city than the safety of its citizens.

Cops need to do what they are paid to do patrol.

But to hear Jim Durham (Director of Administration) and Mayor Fletcher talk, Jacksonville residents are fine upstanding citizens, there is no crime and it is a clean and safe town. This is part of the reason that no business wants to come there and people dont want to live there. It is a slumlord rentshack, ghetto thug gangsta wannabe infested city that is ran by morons. Its no wonder people are moving out of Jacksonville.
