JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Police in Jonesboro say an officer shot and killed a man who resisted arrest and attacked the officer on the city's north side.
Sgt. Stephen McDaniel said 57-year-old Cletis Williams died at a Jonesboro hospital shortly after the shooting about 4:50 p.m. Monday.
The name of the officer has not been released.
McDaniel says the officer was trying to arrest Williams on several misdemeanor charges when Williams attacked the officer.
McDaniel says the officer suffered minor injuries and is on administrative leave pending an investigation into the shooting. The case will be reviewed by Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington.
