Monticello Live: 911 Dispatcher Gayle Hyatt
MONTICELLO, AR -- A 35 minute long 911 call has been released that details the dramatic escape of a man surrounded by flames and smoke during the wildfire in rural Drew County.
Mike Fritts had to make his way to rescuers after the fire approached him as he was going to check on his deer stand.
Fritts was able to place a call to 911 and was encouraged to keep going by dispatcher Gayle Hyatt.
Hyatt was also able to direct rescue workers to Fritts’ area, where he heard Sheriff Mark Gober’s siren, and was able to be safely rescued.
Hyatt has been a dispatcher for 30 years and plans to retire in December.
