LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A Kansas health official has been hired as Arkansas' Medicaid director as the state works on a proposal to change the way the program pays for services.

The Department of Human Services announced Monday that Andy Allison will begin work Dec. 5 as the next director of the Division of Medical Services. He will replace Gene Gessow, who announced last month he was resigning to take a job in Massachusetts.

Allison is the executive director of the Division of Health Care Finance for the Kansas Department of Health. In that position, he oversaw the state's Medicaid program, Children's Health Insurance program and state employee health plans.

Allison will take the job as Arkansas develops a proposal to switch from a fee-for-service model used by Medicaid.
