Oh, and also to KellyR: It's clear to everybody that the transit system in LR could be improved, a LOT LOT LOT. You're absolutely right. I've heard that they've hired some people to work on it. But for now, I'm trying to ride the bus when I can, because I figure that if more people use it, there'll be more reason to make it better.

I wish people would inform themselves about what's going on before making misleading comments in places like this. 1. Nobody's encouraging people to ride on super-busy streets or places where it's unsafe. One of the busiest booths at this weekend's fair dealt with planning routes on quieter neighborhood streets, and using bike lanes and paths when possible. 2. Nobody's going to make anyone ride a bike if they don't want to. The point of this is to give people who want to commute by bike the opportunity to learn how to do it in a safe way. 3. Nobody's suggesting that anyone leave a bicycle at a bus stop. Each CAT bus has a rack, and I can take my bike with me where I go, so that I can ride it when I get off the bus, too.

Weather's perfect for it and I could afford to loose a lbs or two why not?

How long do you think a nice 10 speed bike would last if you left it at the bus stop? Locked or not it would disappear in no time. Video cameras would maybe help but would the expense be worth it? I smell another tax election.

Encouraging people to use alternate methods of transportation rather than cars needs to start with planning. If you look Little Rock lacks mass transit. Take a look at where the largest population of people live and commute in to work. Little Rock and the out laying communities need to seriously consider parking lots scattered around and some form of mass transit to areas that would allow passengers to be dropped off at there work or to a transfer point to a smaller bus to there work. Little Rock also has a large number of senior and people with disabilities that are under served. The current rules for Paratransit allowed pickup 3/4 of a mile from any regular bus line route. There is a sad lack of transportation because there is a large population that lives outside those areas currently covered by the fixed rout bus lines. With the current economic situation in the US there is a need to save on transportation cost and that can only be achieved by expanding and enhancing current mass transit in AR.

After all the heat thats been taken on These Million dolar "Bike Paths" are you really gonna have people ride those stoopid things in traffic...hell lets all ride skateboards to work...wonder if you can get lights and siren's on a skateboard...rofl

If walking when meeting a car please get off the road and let them pass don't try and stay on the road.

I did not finish my last comment. I have no pooblem if a a bike is the onlly transportation a person has. This would only be a few .It wouldn't be safe for them but they have to get around the best they can. Please don't encourage people to ride bikes in the middle of traffic.

It all depends where these bikers are going to be traveling. Our streets, roads, and highways are far to dangerous to put bikes out in the middle of traffic.Any one rideing a bike other than on a bike trail is really takeing a big chance with their life. Some one decided to turn highway 161 at Scott into a bike path. A very busy road full of curves narrow lanes barely wide enough for a car to travel safely. Yet we have giant peices of farm equeptment that takes up both sides of the raods. we have dump trucks and school buses traveling this path. There are no sholders on this highway. Get too close to the edge and you end up in the ditch. Now comes the bikers that are supposed to always travel in single file. They rarely if ever do. When a vehicle needs to pass them, toot the horn start passing slowly . Just as you get to the front of the front of the 5 or 6 groups of 4 or 5 bikes side by side they decide to swing over into the lane your passing in. without looking. This is juat a couple of things that bikers do and they tourment vehicle drivers. Because they know and we do also if one of them get hit by a vehicle , Guess who may go to jail , probably will need a lawyer, may be sued. And may have to live with the death of a biker for the rest of their life. I really needed to vent about this situtation because no one seemes to understand it is not safe for any of us to put bikes traffic in the middle of vehicle traffic.So for the pleasure of these few bikers compared to all the vehicles out there,, we have to tollerate something so unsafe.Accidents waiting to happen. I would like to know why so many of our tax dollars have spent to build special bike trails for bikes ,if they are going to be encourged to forget the bike trails and go out and play in traffic. At least put them on highways that have sholders on each side or put bike paths on the sides. I have seen this done before. Although It still is not safe. I thought safety came first.
