LITTLE ROCK, AR -- No class and no homework. It's why Josten Fells looks forward to summer break.
"Sleep, eat, go outside, play and have fun," said Fells.
But he makes sure he wraps up his hoops session before it gets too late. That's not only an order from his parents, but also from the city.
"That's the law and we're going to enforce it," said Lt. Terry Hastings, spokesman for the Little Rock Police Dept.
Hastings said during the summer, teens ditch their school schedules and want to hang out all night. They forget the city ordinance requiring anyone under 18 to be in by 10 p.m. during the week and midnight on the weekends.
"If you're a parent you need to know where your teen is, what they're doing," Hastings said.
Already this year, police have arrested 75 youngsters for violating curfew. That surpasses 56 arrests made in all of 2010.
Police find the problem in the River Market. Teens are too young to get in the clubs, so they think they can hang out here, which leads to even bigger trouble.
"What we're also seeing is when we arrest for our curfew, we're arresting for other charges. We're arresting for drugs, alcohol, and things of that nature," Hastings said.
On curfew violations, the parents are held just as responsible as the kids. That's why Kendall Williams keeps busy, pumping iron during the day and home at night.
"It's no point to being out past curfew when it's nothing to do but to get in trouble or people are getting killed too," said Williams.
