LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Little Rock police records show that July was the deadliest month in Little Rock in nearly two decades — since gang wars that raged in the early 1990s.

Police records show there were 10 slayings in the city last month. That's the highest number in a single month since December 1993 when there were 11 slayings and a gang war was ongoing.

Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas says there were three double homicides last month — including a pregnant woman whose fetus is counted among the victims. Thomas says all three were committed by people who knew the victims.

Thomas says the circumstances that include people knowing the victims make the deaths different from 1993 when the issues were about gangs and turf wars.

at least the gangs stayed in their own area and just killed other gang members back in the day..not that that's really any better but random killings of innocent people is worse.. I bet all of the murderers have a violent past and should have been in jail at the time of the murder to begin with..says a lot about our prison system.

In 93 it was the gangbangers doing the killing now it's your friends and relatives. We have progressed.

Sitting here all day wondering about this story. It comes to mind that not only did 10 people lose their lives; but so many others affected by their murders. Parents, children, grandchildren, cousins, aunts and uncles; not to mention friends. So many people needing prayers and God's comfort. And then there are the perps; they too have family and friends that were touched by these senseless crimes. They also need prayers and God's comfort. Can't think of anything else; just sitting here shaking my head.
